Austin’s Vintage Interior Design Shopping & Style Guide

Austin’s Vintage Interior Design Shopping & Style Guide

Austin is home to plenty of bests: best music, best breakfast tacos, and best swimming holes, to name a few. But it’s also the mecca of some of the best vintage shopping in the Lone Star State—especially when it comes to home furnishing and design.

The number of vintage stores within our city limits is insane—we even have our own Austin Vintage Around Town Guide! It’s a testament to the amount of quirky people who are “keeping it weird” in our city. We love that Austinites are always on the hunt for one-of-a-kind pieces and uncommon relics, because it keeps these treasure troves up and running.

Because there are so many amazing vintage shops in Austin, we don’t have the room to cover every single one. That’s a good thing, of course. But we can’t keep all the secrets to ourselves. Here are our favorite Austin vintage spots to score the next must-have piece for your home.[vc_single_image image=”1811″ img_size=”360×570″ onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank”]

Austin Antique Mall

If you’ve got an afternoon, or at least a few hours, to kill, the Austin Antique Mall is the perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday after your brunch frosés. With more than 100 dealers and 30,000 square feet of space, strolling the endless labyrinth of booths is a secondhand shopper’s dream come true. It’s got plenty of early 20th-century and even late 19th-century gems, but it’s not just your grandma’s lace-and-doilies antiques. Whether you’re hunting for art deco elegance, groovy ’70s naturalism, or geometric mid-century, you’re sure to find your next conversation piece here, no matter what your design style.[vc_single_image image=”1812″ img_size=”360×570″ onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank”]

Uncommon Objects

Once a staple of the SoCo shopping strip, this vintage-lover’s heaven has moved farther south but hasn’t lost any of its unmatchably quirky charm. Impeccably arranged by color and theme, this shop feels like a museum playland for vintage junkies, loaded with eccentric curios, bygone knickknacks, and gorgeous objets d’art. From one-of-a-kind furniture and pottery to antique medical collections and taxidermy, this treasure trove is brimming with a well-curated selection that spans from the late 19th century all the way to the 1980s. With such mouthwateringly gorgeous collections, don’t expect to leave empty handed.[vc_single_image image=”1813″ img_size=”360×570″ onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank”]

Room Service

If you’re looking for fun and funky, you’ve come to the right place. For more than 35 years, Room Service has been the go-to spot for the most peculiar and unique furniture and home decor items in Austin. Their continually changing selection is especially rooted in 1950s to 1980s collectibles and treasures, so expect lots of kitschy and unusual furniture, as well as mod lighting fixtures, tiki glassware, and velvet paintings galore.[vc_single_image image=”1814″ img_size=”360×570″ onclick=”custom_link” img_link_target=”_blank”]

Vintage Fresh

With tribal-patterned throws and blankets, gold accent pieces, and textile wall hangings, this newish brick-and-mortar shop looks more like a West Elm/Anthropologie mashup than a vintage shop. But upon closer inspection, Vintage Fresh is actually a bit of both, reflecting its name perfectly. Born “out of love for modern design and all things vintage,” this boutique store specializes in updated and refinished mid-century furniture. But it also offers a gorgeous collection of vintage and new home decor, from wall decor and planters to kitchenware, candles, and textiles.[vc_empty_space height=”1px”]
