This historic home near Blanco, Texas, once owned by President Lyndon B. Johnson’s grandparents and where his mother grew up, was lovingly known by the family as “Amenthal.” Today, it continues its story through a thoughtful historic home redesign. A repeat client invited me to breathe new life into the residence after a previous renovation, with a focus on adding custom elements and materials that connect to its Texas roots.
Locally sourced pecan countertops ground the kitchen in the surrounding landscape, while a custom corner bench and shelves add everyday function and charm. Updated lighting throughout enhances each space, and newly designed mantels restore balance and character. Custom furniture pieces were introduced to give the interiors a sense of individuality, creating a dialogue between historic architecture and modern living.
The result is a historic home redesign that honors the heritage of Amenthal while offering warmth, comfort, and personality for contemporary life. This project reflects both the unique history of the home and the trust of a longtime client who has become like family.
