Mid Atlantic

Mid Atlantic

Overview:

Mid Atlantic is a 6,000-square-foot residential interior décor project completed in 2023. The design process began in June 2021, with installation phases culminating in early 2023. The client, with whom the design team had previously collaborated, sought a full furnishings and accessories package for a newly acquired out-of-state home. The objective was to infuse vibrant color and personality into each room, transforming an empty property into a lively, jewel-toned retreat that reflected the client’s appreciation for distinctive décor.

Project Goals:

The primary aim was to furnish and decorate a new home that began as a blank canvas. With an unlimited budget, the client desired richly hued pieces, custom-designed elements, and an array of textures and finishes. The project involved selecting all-new furniture, decorative accessories, and lighting fixtures to create an inviting environment that balanced color, comfort, and style.

Design and Implementation:

  • Layout/Structural Changes:
No significant structural alterations were made. A slight outdoor patio extension was undertaken by the client, influencing how the design team approached furnishings for the backyard space.
  • Materials and Finishes:
High-quality upholstery and custom-designed rugs underscored the home’s unique character. Colorful textiles, handcrafted furniture, and carefully chosen lighting elements brought depth and interest to each area. Rich jewel tones defined the palette, setting a vibrant tone that contrasted with the home’s more traditional architectural leanings.
  • Key Elements:
    • Vibrant Color Palette: Jewel tones unified the design, ensuring a consistent mood throughout the home.
    • Custom-Designed Furnishings: Bespoke cabinetry, rugs, and select furniture pieces distinguished key spaces, such as the billiard room, office, and landing.
    • Integration of Smart Lighting: A Lutron system enabled the client to adjust lighting easily, creating different ambiances to suit various activities and times of day.

Challenges:

  • Remote Coordination:
Managing the project from afar required clear communication and adaptability. Virtual presentations and regular updates ensured the client remained informed and involved, despite the distance.
  • Extended Timeline and Delays:
Global supply chain constraints during the pandemic extended lead times and installation phases. The team addressed these delays with proactive communication and flexible scheduling.

Solutions:

  • Virtual Design Meetings:
All selections and designs were finalized through remote consultations, drawing on previous positive experiences working with the client virtually.
  • Phased Installations:
Executing the project in stages allowed for a smoother process despite longer lead times for custom pieces. The team managed expectations and adapted the timeline as needed.

Outcome:

The completed Mid Atlantic project stands as a testament to the power of color, texture, and tailored furnishings in transforming an empty home into a visually dynamic and welcoming space. The thoughtful integration of vibrant hues, custom-designed elements, and cutting-edge lighting controls achieved the client’s desired look and atmosphere. While the interior décor did not alter the home’s underlying structure, it undoubtedly reinvented the living experience.

Client Feedback and Satisfaction:

The client approved each selection and initially expressed enthusiasm for the results. Following the completion, no testimonials were provided for long-term reference. Nonetheless, the project’s execution demonstrates the design team’s capability to handle complex, out-of-state endeavors with creativity and dedication.

Documentation:

Extensive photographs showcase the richly appointed interiors. Before-and-after images, along with floor plans, highlight the dramatic difference brought about by a carefully curated interior design strategy.

Future Considerations:

Although no further collaboration with this client is expected, the Mid Atlantic project serves as an example of how a dedicated design team can deliver a layered, colorful aesthetic in challenging circumstances, offering inspiration for future clients who appreciate bold design choices.
