Westlake Her Place

Westlake Her Place

Overview:

Westlake Her Place is a 5,500-square-foot residence in Austin, Texas, primarily focused on elevating the home’s interior décor, complemented by select modifications that enhance both style and function. Envisioned as a second home for a client residing out of state, the project began in May 2019 and reached substantial completion by April 2020, with a custom wine cellar completed in June 2020. The design embraced soft hues, feminine details, and sophisticated touches that invite relaxation, socializing, and personal enjoyment.

Project Goals:

The client’s vision centered on creating a welcoming retreat that reflected her love of color—particularly pink—and her desire for a refined, cozy atmosphere. Beyond curating furniture, finishes, and accessories, the designer introduced a custom illuminated wine cellar under the staircase, transforming an underused area into a standout focal point. Thoughtful enhancements, including updated countertops and mirrors, added depth and dimension, resulting in a uniquely personal and comfortable haven.

Design and Implementation:

Since much of the collaboration occurred virtually, the designer provided digital presentations and detailed proposals to ensure each decision resonated with the client’s style. The home’s palette featured soft, feminine hues, complemented by textured wallpapers, custom-built furnishings, and carefully selected décor elements. The wine cellar, featuring a rose quartz illuminated floor and antique mirrored panels, became a defining centerpiece that embodied the client’s appreciation for distinctive design features.
The project’s transformation was thoroughly documented through high-quality photographs, floor plans, and before-and-after comparisons. This ensured every detail of the design evolution was clearly communicated and celebrated.

Challenges and Solutions:

Executing the project remotely required flexibility, clear communication, and trust. Virtual meetings, comprehensive digital presentations, and consistent updates ensured the client remained fully engaged and informed. Proactive planning and careful oversight addressed any supply chain or scheduling adjustments, underscoring the importance of verifying details and selecting reliable partners early in the process.

This experience further refined the design team’s approach, reinforcing their commitment to meticulous review, strategic communication, and adaptability—qualities they bring to every project.

Solutions:

  • Adjusting Material Choices:
After exploring options, using wood in certain areas allowed for seamless alignment with the terrazzo in the kitchen, achieving the desired mid-century feel without sacrificing practicality.
  • Collaborative Client Meetings:
Regular design sessions with the client ensured that all decisions, from cabinet finishes to tile selections, maintained the mid-century vision and met functional needs.

Outcome:

The completed residence fully realized the client’s desire for a feminine, vibrant space where comfort and style coexist. The unique wine cellar, custom furnishings, and thoughtfully chosen finishes created an environment that surpassed initial expectations. This project stands as a testament to the design team’s ability to adapt, innovate, and deliver exceptional results—principles that continue to guide their approach to future endeavors.
