East Side Home

East Side Home

Overview:

Eastside Home is a 1,600-square-foot residential project located in Austin, Texas, completed in 2022. As a rental property, the goal was to create an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable living environment using finishes and décor that could be easily reversed or removed at the end of the lease. The design approach emphasized personality, color, and a blend of vintage and modern elements, all while respecting the temporary nature of the arrangement.

Project Goals:

The primary objective was to cultivate a space that felt engaging and vibrant without making permanent alterations. Because the home was rented, choices were limited to modifications that could be undone with ease. This included removable wallpaper, versatile furnishings, and carefully selected accessories, ensuring that the overall look could be preserved or adjusted as necessary.

Design and Implementation:

Design and Implementation:

  • Layout/Structural Changes:
No structural changes were made. The existing layout was maintained, and the project’s focus centered on surface treatments, furnishings, and decorative elements that did not require permanent fixtures.
  • Materials and Finishes:
Selections prioritized comfort and style. Removable peel-and-stick wallpaper was applied to introduce color and pattern without altering walls permanently. Furnishings combined vintage pieces with modern accents, resulting in a unique, eclectic look. A wool rug added texture and warmth, reflecting a thoughtful approach to materials.
  • Key Elements:
    • Colorful, Eclectic Décor: An array of hues, prints, and textures enriched the spaces, creating a lively and inviting atmosphere.
    • Removable Wallpaper: A standout feature in the primary suite, adding visual interest while adhering to the constraints of a rental property.
    • Vintage and Modern Mix: Personal collections and long-treasured items coexisted with contemporary pieces, ensuring that the home felt dynamic and truly individual.

Challenges:

  • Rental Constraints:
As a rental property, design decisions needed to be easily reversible. Solutions included peel-and-stick wallpapers, freestanding furnishings, and décor that could be adapted without damaging the original finishes.
  • No Major Obstacles:
Beyond the typical limitations of a rental property, no significant challenges or complexities arose during this project.

Outcome:

The Eastside Home project successfully created a welcoming, personality-filled environment within the limitations of a rental property. By focusing on non-permanent design solutions, the result was a space that felt curated, colorful, and aligned with the occupant’s tastes. The selection of removable wallpaper and a thoughtful blend of styles produced an atmosphere that was both visually appealing and flexible enough to change as needed.

Client Feedback and Satisfaction:

Though no formal testimonials were recorded, the occupant expressed satisfaction with the transformed interior, noting that it met their desire for an enjoyable and visually engaging home. The absence of permanent renovations allowed for peace of mind and future adaptability.

Documentation:

High-quality photographs capture the vibrant interiors and distinctive wallpaper choices. While before-and-after images were not a focus, the final visuals highlight the effective use of color, pattern, and personal flair that define the Eastside Home project.
