When long-time friend and collaborator Cat Prince asked me to help her refresh her 1950s Austin home, I used a combination of her furnishings with some fashionable finds to create a mid-century look that was inviting, sleek, and modern while also reflecting Prince’s eclectic style using unique finds from her travels. Bright white paint creates a sharp, clean canvas for the earthy greens and golden hues, which blend exquisitely with the colors of the home’s natural surroundings. Pops of color and whimsy stand in sharp contrast to rich, wooden cabinetry and impressive vintage pieces. In the living room, the furniture’s strategic placement draws the eyes to a marble mantle I designed, and a collection of string instruments pays homage to the family’s musical inclinations. Not one inch of space was neglected in this top-to-bottom refresh, with outdoor entertaining areas reflecting the same clean lines as the rest of the home and highlighting the crystal blue pool and picturesque greenery.
